The Hypocrisy That Got Us Here
People say they believe in kindness—until it requires them to be uncomfortable.
People say they believe in fairness—until someone else gets the advantage.
People say they believe in democracy—until their side loses.
We were raised to believe in simple morals: Do the right thing. Treat others as you’d want to be treated. Be honest. Be fair.
But what happens when those values clash with self-interest?
What happens when someone preaches family values but ignores a child in need—because their welfare shouldn’t be your concern when your own family is struggling too?
When someone says they love their immigrant ancestors but resent today’s immigrants—because those newcomers aren’t like the ones from the past?
When someone insists they want freedom—but only for people who think, look, and believe like them?
We talk a good game. But do we live by it?
Because the problem with hypocrisy isn’t just that it exists.
It’s that we’ve gotten really good at justifying it.
